 Medical TreatmentThe Admissions policy and procedures of the John A. Burns School of Medicine (JABSOM) aim to fulfill the school’s mission to train high quality physicians for Hawai`i and the Pacific.  In addition to high academic potential, emphasis is also placed on personal attributes including motivation, commitment to medicine, and an awareness of the world around the applicant.
JABSOM admitted 68 new entrants to the first year class on July 13, 2015.

The median cumulative GPA of the 2015 entering class:

Application Requirements for the JABSOM MD Program
      JABSOM subscribes to the philosophy that a physician should be broadly educated, able not only to understand and manage the physical part of the human body but also the social, cultural, and psychological components.Therefore, applicants are encouraged to obtain a broad education in the humanities and in the social and behavior sciences, in addition to satisfying the more specific basic science requirements set forth below.
      • Medical College Admissions Test (MCAT) must be taken within three years of the anticipated year of matriculation to medical school. The latest MCAT scores screened or re-screened in the application process are September of the year of application (May for Early Decision). MCAT test scores from January 2014 to September 2016 (May 2016 for Early Decision) will be considered for the 2017 entering class application cycle. Beginning with the 2016 entering class application, applicants must have a minimum verbal score of “6” on the “Verbal Reasoning” section.

Each course should be acceptable for students majoring in these disciplines.
Additional enrichment in the biological and social sciences is encouraged.
